Evidence Based Practice

At Barrow & District Physiotherapy, we welcome continually review what is the latest evidence and best practice, so that you are informed of the best available advice and the highest quality treatment.
Evidence based practice is defined as ‘the conscientious, explicit and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients’ (Sackett et al, 1996).
Evidence based practice is important as it helps to underpin and shape how a Physiotherapist (and any other professional) delivers a high standard of patient care. It promotes Physio values to maximise the impact Physiotherapy has in the UK in meeting patient needs in a clinically effective way and informs the development of Physiotherapy practice, service delivery, education and in the development of Physiotherapy as a workforce.
It aids the progression of developing a professional approach, by using and promoting the best available research in order to develop new evidence, knowledge and continually improve the service.
